MYTH NO 1
EATING LESS IS THE KEY TO LOSING WEIGHT
Eating less is not the key to losing weight and it actually will slow the metabolism down and cause you to actually gain weight, even though you may be eating less. You must change what you eat, replacing all the fatty foods with protein foods and fresh fruit and vegetables. This way you can eat as often as you are hungry and not put on any extra weight.
MYTH NO 2
WEIGHT LOSS EXERCISE PROGRAMS ARE DANGEROUS IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT
Many people think that once they are overweight they are in danger of heart failure if they start rigorous exercise. The fact is partly true if you are extremely overweight, but if you start to exercise gradually, increasing a little each day then your body will adjust over time as you become fitter.
MYTH NO 3
FAD DIETS ARE THE FASTEST WAY TO LOSE WEIGHT
There are many diets that promise to strip the pounds off in half the time of regular diets, but they usually are difficult to stick to and do not necessarily contain a balanced choice of foods. Because of this they can damage your health. You are better off sticking to a sensible low fat high protein diet and combine this with regular daily exercise.
MYTH NO 4
CARBS ARE FATTENING AND THEREFORE SHOULD NOT BE CONSUMED TO LOSE WEIGHT
Many foods with carbohydrates are actually low in fat and calories and are fine to eat when trying to lose weight. Some great examples includes:
• Wholegrain pastas
• Wholegrain breads
• beans
• Brown rice
• Wholegrain cereals
• fruits
• Sweet potatoes and yams
The above foods are all high in starch and are all complex carbohydrates, which are an important energy source necessary in every balanced diet. As long as they are eaten without fattening toppings such as butter, sour cream and mayonnaise they are fine to include in your weight loss diet. Servings should be small and regular (about 6-11 servings a day) and you must choose whole meal breads, flour and pasta when possible. Brown rice is also a lot better than white rice. Starchy foods that are also high in dietary fiber are the best including beans, peas, and raw vegetables.
